Sergeant Barry Stewart introduced Chair for the evening Pres Kathy who opened meeting 3156 and welcomed members.
Kathy then called for Rotarian Dave Griffith to deliver the Anzac message. Dave provided a brief history and then led members in a short ceremony included a minutes silence and the Last Post.
Kathy thanked Dave for once again taking the lead in this and also attending the meeting especially for it. Kathy also announced that PP Brian Burt will represent Gawler Rotary at the Dawn service tomorrow and lay the wreath on our behalf.
Kathy asked Rotarians to come forward with any announcements.
Angela Moore
- Thanked the team of people for assisting at the BBQ on the weekend. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very well supported by the public, but we had a great opportunity to put ourselves out in the community and have some fellowship.
- Angela also reported that Deb Williams’s father was ill in hospital again and coming so close to the recent loss of her mother, asked everyone to keep the family in their thoughts.
Brian Burt
- Brian reminded members that the expo on the 3rd of June was a wonderful opportunity for Rotarians to connect and find out more. Also, the dinner in the evening. Brian asked for names to try and get a group together to attend. Please see Brian ASAP if you are interested. The expo is free, and it and the dinner is the conference wrap up.
Mark Forgie
- Mark is part of the ‘Ukraine New Dawn Project’. This has been taken up as a RAWKs program and the money is being channelled directly through the Rotary club of Odessa, The latest allocation was $20K to provide a portable washing and toileting facility. Mike offered to do a longer presentation to the club so he can show people photos and videos of the devastation in the Ukraine.
Anthony Barilla
- Anthony attended the meeting at Tony Piccolo’s office on Wednesday night to find out the information about the proposed precinct redevelopment which includes our shed. This committee is being formed to approach council to have money allocated to draw up plans for the redevelopment-nothing is set in concrete yet. Anthony asked any Rotarians who were free on Tuesday night to attend the council Meeting in their Rotary shirts to show their support.
After a short break during dinner Pres Kathy introduced Barry for his Sergeants session.
Wheel spinner was Shawn and winners this week were Michael Jacob and Angela Moore who both won Chocolates.
Barry led everyone singing Happy Birthday to Leanne, then presented his slide show of funnies before handing back to Kathy to close the meeting.
Pres Kathy thanked the team who participated in the BBQ in Gawler for the opening of the new basketball courts also the people who were assisting Gawler Light on the football gates on Saturday. Then reminded everyone that next week Elizabth Rotary Club is joining us for the meeting. Don’t forget to book in for the Atea 6 dinner on the 8th as this is INSTEAD of our regular meeting.
After the Four Way test members moved into their committees to hold the regular meetings.
