After the formalities Sergeant Barry introduced the chair for the evening- Angela Moore. Angela welcomed members and guest of Beth, Gayle Joyce and acknowledged the apologies before calling on Rotarians who wished to address the meeting.
PP Brian Burt -Presented PP Barry with his Pizza he ordered for the quiz night but then forgot to turn up because he got the dates mixed up!
PE Anthony Barilla- the quiz night was very successful and raised $11,000 for Variety. Additionally an anonymous donor made a sizable gift to the Rotary Club of Gawler to purchase 2 RCDs and a large donation to go to the Two Wells Primary School Breakfast Club project. The eventual winning Team was Taylor and Forgie.
After dinner Sergeant Barry conducted the wheel spin with Angela spinning the winning numbers. Once again, the Pres had a winning number, Deb Williams and Kim Potger taking 2nd and 3rd prizes.  Barry then presented his usual Bunyip roundup and Facebook funnies session after announcing birthdays.
Chair Angela then introduced our speaker for the evening PP Brian Burt to talk about Rotary’s Public Image.
A summary of the informative presentation provided by Brian follows:
  1. Who we are:
Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves.
  1. Public Image is an important aspect of brand awareness which influences whether your potential customers know, like, and trust you.  Public image is the way in which the general public see and perceive your organisation.
  2. A survey of awareness of Rotary showed that Australia had the highest proportion of respondents who said they were aware of Rotary (95%), while Germany had the lowest (34%). Awareness of Rotary doesn't necessarily translate into familiarity with what it does.  While almost everyone in Australia indicated an awareness of Rotary, only 35%of respondents said they had some familiarity with the organisation. In South Africa, where 80% of respondents indicated they were aware of Rotary, only 23% said they had some familiarity with what it does.
The survey concluded that Rotary is still seen as an elitist organisation dominated by very elderly, rich, white males. -
Rotary Club of Gawler dispels these myths- we have had 5 female presidents in the last decade including the immediate past president; the club has a range of ages; children are welcome at the meetings; occupations represented cover a wide range from cleaning services, law, education, funeral services, engineers, and farmers.
  1. Q. What do Rotarians need to do to improve their Public Image?
A. “Nothing!  That’s the job of the Public Image Fairy,” is very wrong.
Our members ARE our public image.
  1. Get the Rotary Image out there!
  •      Wear your Rotary lapel pin.
  • Put a Rotary sticker on your car, motor bike, bicycle, walker, gopher, electric scooter, jet ski, speed boat, private plane, helicopter, and your letter box, front door, business premises.
  • Talk about Rotary with your family, friends, neighbours, shopkeepers, everyone you meet!
  • Talk about what we have done locally, talk about what we have done internationally, talk about our dinner meetings- a chance for fellowship, learning new skills, listening to interesting speakers, provide opportunities for personal development, talk about the opportunities we provide for youth development,
  • Talk about the committees and opportunities tom plan and have a say on what we focus on and how we assist.
  1. Share Rotary posts widely on Facebook, follow the Gawler Rotary club page as well as the district 9510 website as well as our own.
  2. Invite family, friends, acquaintances – to share Rotary events and projects with you. BE PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN & FLAUNT IT

Angela thanked PP Brian before handing back to Pres. John to close the evening.
John thanked members and Beths guest Gayle for attending and Brian for his great reminder about keeping up our positive public image. He reminded everyone that next week is committees.
John then closed meeting 3168 with the Four Way Test
