September has been busy for the club as well as the Bulletin editor-hence the combined editions.
Almoner PP Mike Williams delivered the sad news that Polio is back in Gaza. Ongoing vaccinations have kept it at bay but now a 10month old baby has tested positive-Gaza’s first case in 25 years. According the World Health Organisation (WHO), Israel has agreed to a series of pauses to allow around 640,000 children to be vaccinated. The WHO is aiming to achieve 90% vaccine coverage across the strip, which is needed to stop transmission of the virus within Gaza.
Over the last 3 meetings Sergeant Barry has continued to share humorous moments with members through his Facebook funnies session as well as conducting shared Mic sessions so members can share their moments of gratitude and joy over the weeks.
The club had an enjoyable visit to the Gawler Town Band rehearsal where they were entertained with some fabulous music. This was an invitation from their recent visit to us and we look forward to continuing our association with them.
The club had a successful day fundraising at the Gawler Car Club swap meet. Selling out of both BBQ sausage sizzle and hot dogs despite making 2 extra trips to the shops for supplies. Steve Barilla thanked members who assisted not only on the day but set up on Saturday and work behind the scenes in the previous week. Special mention went to the Rotary Club of Gawler Light for their assistance with set up on Saturday-in true Rotary spirit they didn’t wait to be asked, they saw a need and jumped in-Thanks RCGL.
Steve stressed that this shows that we need everyone to help at the village fair there are jobs for everyone.

Committees have had very productive meetings and fed back to Board
Tom Kelly gave an impromptu guest speaker session with part 1 of his autobiography.
- Members were impressed by his revelation he has completed the Kokoda Trail 4 times and Everest twice.
- He is one of 8 children grew up in Beaumaris in Victoria before moving to Launceston.
- Toms father received an OAM for services to auto industry.
- While at Christian Bros Tom played AFL against David Boon and said if he didn’t go on to be a great cricket player, he would have been a great AFL player.
- While still at school Tom got his first job at 14 as a cleaner in a dept store which he loved
- He started in the bank as a teller when he left school at 17 and was promoted at 19.
- Tom moved to Holden motors as state distribution manager.
- Married Helen who is a dentist, in 1989.
- In 1990 decided he wanted to go to uni and studied Bachelor of Business full time while also working full time for a fitness centre.
- Tom and Helen moved to Alice Springs where Helen bought the dental practice, and they purchased a house. Their neighbour was Jane Hayes who gave them an introduction to business and families in the area.
- Tom was asked to work at the Central Australian Family Resource centre setting up the systems there.
- Tom was accepted by the indigenous community because they said he didn’t tell them what to do.
- Tom started working at the Ngurratjuta Aboriginal Corp and helped Kumantyayi (Charlie) Perkins set up The Arrernte Council of Central Australia Aboriginal Corporation.
- Tom and Helen met Peter Kittle when they took up dirt bike riding and in 1999 started work with Peter. The families are great friends and are going back to the Himalayas next months.
Pres Anthony announced meeting 3221 would be member Shawn Lock’ last as he is heading off next week, he has enlisted in the Navy. We wish Shawn well and a group of members are going to the Southern Hotel for lunch on Saturday. All the best Shawn.
