Notes from members and directors:
PP Steve B Relay for Life have once again asked for assistance on the weekend of 29th and 30th March. They require the hire, erection and dismantling of shelters. Steve collected names of those able to help. Barossa Air show is also coming up on April 6th and a large team is needed to assist for the day. Please also make yourselves known to Ron if you are able to help with the trailer build.
Steve will be taking a leave of absence for a few weeks due to a health matter so Mike Williams will take over the service portfolio in his absence.
After Dinner President Anthony introduced Barry for his sergeant session.
Wheel winners were Ian, Wayne and Margaret.
After celebrating the Anniversaries and Birthdays Barry presented his Facebook funnies.
President Anthony then invited guest speaker Mayor of Gawler Karen Redman to address the group.
Karen presented the councils vision for Gawler for 2025 as well as achievements for 2024.
A couple of examples:
  • The boundary changes have gone to consultation and the outcome should be known by mid 2025
  • The preservation of Gawler history is important, and an example is the wall at Pioneer Park. The wall is a state listed Heritage and area will be preserved, and a new wall built in front. Council is working with Heritage South Australia to ensure appropriate process are followed.
  •  Ayling & Dwyer Lime Kiln Park- play equipment has been removed and donated to the Uniting Church to replace the one which was burnt down. The new play space will be an inclusive playground.
Mayor Karen acknowledged Rotary’s commitment to supporting the people of Gawler and surrounds. For example the Village Fair, assisting other service clubs and community groups-Australia Day, Relay for Life, sponsoring youth to attend leadership training, exchange programs and enrichment programs, Quality of Life group.
Karen also invited the group to further assist in events such as History festival, Fringe Festival,  and Greening Gawler.
Following her presentation Karen held a Q& A session for members.  At the conclusion President Anthony Thanked Mayor Karen and presented her with her certificate.
The meeting was closed with the four Way test.
