Sergeant Barry introduced Chairperson for the evening PP Brian Burt who officially opened meeting 3163 and read apologies before calling for Rotarians who requested spots this evening.

PP Almoner Mike Williams Maggie Murphy had another tumble she has had surgery and fortunately her hip was fractured not broken. She is home.

Trish Williams is still in Lyall McEwin hospital and Alan said she is sitting up in the chair but still not walking. She is welcoming visitors if anyone would like to pop in to see her. Perhaps just call first.

Unfortunately, the wheel was not ready for this meeting due to paint not ready. However, thanks to Ian Nys and Ron Lloyd the wheel will be ready for the next meeting.

A decision was recently made by the board to sell the donut machine. We have not been using it and there are also concerns over safety of hot oil.

There being no more spots Brian invited everyone to enjoy their meal.

During the sergeant’s session wheel winners were Km Potger and Michael Jacob. Barry then presented another entertaining session of Facebook funnies etc before handing over to Chairperson pp Brian who then introduced our guest speaker Shawn Lock to present his autobiography.  Shawn gave an honest and at times confronting account of his life so far. He acknowledged that at 19 he still had most of his life ahead of him. He grew up in Elizabeth with his parents and 3 brothers and attended Elizabeth East Primary school before moving to Munno Para West in 2018. Despite some family difficulties, Shawn did well in high school achieving an ATAR of 90 and was honoured to serve as School Captain in YR 12. During his final 2 years at school Shawn also worked in Fast Food outlets like many other young people.  Shawn applied to the Dept of Defence as part of their Gap Year program but received an offer to study Law at Adelaide Uni, so he decided to do that instead and perhaps join Defence Dept. after his studies are completed. Shawn joined the Australian Liberal Party and Rotary because he believes he has much to offer and wants to good for the community. He is rightly proud of the fact that he is a boy from the north who grew up in less-than-ideal circumstances but has not stopped and felt sorry for himself. Instead, he has grown from the experiences and is a role model for others in his situation. He stopped and reflected on who he wanted to be and who he didn’t and has taken all the positives to make him who he is.

Chair Brian thanked Shawn and presented him with his certificate of Thanks before introducing Pres kathy for the wrap up.

Pres Kathy reminded members that the Changeover is only 2 weeks away and RSVP needs to be done ASAP as the closing date is tomorrow. No money accepted on the night so please either pay at the next meeting or via direct deposit.

Also reminded members to get behind the Variety Bash quiz night on the 15^thJuly.

Big thanks to Ian Nys for assisting Gawler Light at the football gates. Ian said he received a bottle of wine and has donated it to the raffle.
