Meeting 3237 was opened by president Anthony who welcomed special guests Tim Mee and Maurice O’Connell who were our guest speakers for the evening. Pres Anthony: Steve couldn’t be here tonight but sent his thanks for members who helped at the Australia day Breakfast. Volunteers received a lovely gift of an engraved BBQ scraper or an Apron from Apex this year which was greatly appreciated.
PP Julie Tekell - it is wonderful to be back and will be here now until winter. Julie gave a brief recap of the last 6 months.
PP Kyle – Lance is currently in hospital with an infection, he will probably be there for the week. He wanted to inform members that Stan can no longer attend the Quality of Life meetings so they are looking for a Rotarian to fill this position. Please see Kyle or Lance if you are interested.
Beth -Beth and Alan visited the Rotary Club of Mt Gambier and were surprised that currently there were no women members in the club. They also do not have a board or committees and the responsibility is with all members. There meetings are structured so that weeks 1 & 3 they have special guests; Weeks 2 & 4 are business meetings where decisions are made and if there is a 5th week in the month they have a vocational visit. The club has about 30 members and 15 were present on the night they went.
Angela- apologies to everyone for lack of the Bulletin over past few weeks. She is back on track now and promises to have one out from this week.
After Dinner President Anthony introduced Barry for his sergeant session.
Wheel winners were Angela; Kathy and Margaret.
After celebrating the Anniversaries and Birthdays Barry presented his Facebook funnies.
President Anthony then invited guest speakers Tim Mee and Maurice O’Connell to address the group.
Tim Mee is a Rotarian with the Morialta club and is also the District International Service chair and responsible for Engagement through International Service. He thanked Maurice for his commitment to the Ukraine project and also Mark Forgie who is on the committee. This project was launched 2 years ago in Gawler.
Tim gave an informative presentation accompanied by a slideshow. He stressed that it is important for clubs to support international projects either by ourselves or with other clubs and budget for support of the Foundation. Clubs are reminded that it essential to use RAWCS for Rotary projects due to their Project and volunteer facilitation; fundraising support and central bank account; Australian Regulatory compliance and Robust Governance.
Maurice then gave an update of the Ukraine New Dawn Project -after he visited the club last, he has made 2 trips to Ukraine each one for 6-month duration as he doesn’t stay for winter. Maurice reminded the club that every dollar Rotary donates goes to the project and New Dawn pay for the admin costs and individual volunteers completely self-fund their involvement including all air fares and accommodation. They have meals provided at 90c per person per day!
At the conclusion of the presentation President Anthony presented both men with their certificate of appreciation and indicating the donation in their name to vaccinate 45 children against Polio.
Anthony then closed the meeting asking members to recite the Four Way test.
