Chair for the evening was Pres Anthony who opened meeting 3218 and welcomed Rotarians and guest Sia Fletcher
And Guest Speakers Melissa Hardy and Layne Bailey from the Gawler Town Band.
Apologies for the evening were received from: Julie Tekell, Kim Potger, Margaret Leversedge, John Lyons.
Anthony then invited members with information to come forward.

- Nice to have Deb back this week
- Brian Scully, Julie Smeaton’s father passed away this week. The funeral will be on 3rd September @10:30am for those who wish to attend.
- Georgia Hardwig passed also away on the weekend, not sure about a funeral but keep an eye on the paper.
PP Steve
- Thanks to everyone who helped out on the weekend. Steve thanked everyone individually for their effort but In particular thanked Beth for the delivery of handmade sausage rolls; Ron for making a special trip to bring drinks out. We really need everyone to step up for events. This way we can share the load instead of people doing all day.
PP Ian Sanders
- Thanks for organising the brochures which were handed out to patrons on Saturday. A great initiative to let people know who we are and what we do. He didn’t see any just tossed aside and most people genuinely interested.
PP Kathy Heinrich
- Huge thanks to Steve for his organisation for the day and also being a great “car spot finder” e.g. people up the top got the message to let in 6 cars but after the 6 cars Steve kept finding more spots.
Anthony then invited everyone to enjoy fellowship until PP Barry Stewart presented his sergeants session.
Wheel winners this week were Geoff Bennier, Mike W and Guest speaker Layne.
Barry followed with his usual presentation of Facebook funnies.
Pres Anthony then introduced Guest Speakers Melissa Hardy and Layne Bailey from Gawler Town Band to the meeting.
Melissa is a Trinity College Old Scholar and plays the clarinet in the town band. She has a degree in business and marketing and uses this in her role as Marketing Manager with the band looking after events and publicity. She is also Vice President 2024.
The band members come from all walks of life and span a range of ages. They are like a big family and some have met their partners through their involvement in the band.
Melissa and Layne were joint winners of the Band Person of the year in 2020.
Melissa gave a brief history of the band which started in Gawler in 1860 and becoming the Gawler Town Band in 1957.
2020 saw the band launch into Social Media when it was necessary to rehearse via zoom due to Covid restrictions. They then presented a concert via live stream which proved very popular. Over the years the band has supported many events in the local area such as Tour Down Under, Relay for Life, Village Fair, Gawler Show, Anzac Day ceremonies and several Christmas events. They participate in the Grand show of bands and the Hahndorf band festival where they are well received.
In 2023 the band moved to a permanent home in the Youth Shack at the Gawler Rec Centre.
After questions to Melissa Pres Anthony presented her with a certificate of thanks and then closed the meeting by asking members and guests to join him in reciting the 4 Way test.
