PP Barry Stewart opened meeting 3224 and asked PP Mike W to say grace and PP Kathy H to make a toast. Barry then asked Members who had indicated they had information to come forward.
Beth – a reminder to the last few people who have not given her the copies of their police check to do so before the village fair.
PP Steve Barilla -gave an update on the village fair and indicated it is all coming together thanks to the help of a couple of dedicated helpers. We have extra help on the day coming from Air Cadets which is fabulous but we will still need as many club members as are able- there will be jobs for all abilities!
PP Mike Williams- With Geoff Bennier’s permission Mike informed members that Geoff has recently had surgery and unfortunately, he has more extensive surgery coming up. We wish Geoff all the best with it and hope everything goes well.
PP Ian Sanders- Ian has a vintage car that was his fathers and although it holds special memories he no longer likes to drive. He would like to sell the car and very generously split the proceeds between RCG and Variety. A discussion was held about the best way to do this, and Ian can now start the process.
PP Mark Smeaton – Once again the Hope Cup is being held. It will be 17th November at Sandy Creek Oval from 9:45-4:30pm. Please support with sponsorship as well as on the day- Mark is hoping that this year is 3rd time lucky for a win!
He has organised a Vocational visit to the Riverside Salvos on 18th November.
Beth spoke to Mark about a friend who sold all her possessions in Australia and bought a run down hospital in one of the poorest parts of Uganda.
“Glenyce Gers is dedicated to making a difference to people in the poorest subregion of Uganda, known as Busoga where most of the patients have little or no consistent income. In 2022 she sold all her possessions in Australia enabling her to form a partnership that purchased a 50 bed struggling Ugandan hospital now known as GlenZ Dignity Hospital. In 2023 the Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment Program (RARE) extended support by providing a container packed full of equipment and supplies that have made a powerful impact. Glenyce is a tireless advocate who is passionate about a current project aiming to equip a well-equipped Emergency Medical Vehicle (the current one is pictured below) as well as sharing news about an innovative opportunity for hands-on training in the areas of allied health, such as laboratory technicians and pharmacists.”
Glenyce will be speaking at next weeks Gawler Light meeting and Mark proposed that we attend the meeting in lieu of our normal meeting next Monday. Members voted in favour of meeting at Café Nova TUESDAY 22nd October 6pm dinner 7:30 meeting. More information about the hospital can be found https://glenzgroup.com/about-us/
PP Chair Barry invited everyone to enjoy Rotary Fellowship over dinner before presenting his Sergeants session.
Wheel winners were Sia, Ron and Barry.
Pres Anthony then introduced tonight’s guest speaker with a difference. Sara, a past inbound exchange student, is continuing her Rotary journey and is now on a Commerce Exchange in Argentina. The exchange is for young people aged 18-30 years old and allows them to put into practice what they have learned at university. Sara’s focus is economics and marketing in 2 different industries. Sara recorded the session because of the time difference and invited members to give any questions they have to Anthony who will relay them to her for an answer. Members enjoyed hearing what she was up to and that she is still very connected to Rotary.
In closing President Anthony reminded members that next week there will be no meeting on Monday evening due to the combined meeting at Café Nova on Tuesday.
