PP Barry then introduced the chair for the evening- PP Mike Williams who welcomed members and special guests before asking Members who wished to have a Rotary Spot to come forward. Mike also reminded members that if they take star droppers they need to also take the yellow caps to go on top. it is a safety issue.
PP Mark Smeaton
- Ian Nys is still in hospital, He has now been transferred to the RAH and is in intensive care so he can receive the specialised care he needs. He has a nasty bacterial infection in his lungs and will be having them flushed to hopefully get rid of the nasties. Please keep both Ian and Michele in your thoughts.
- Participated in the Hope Cup yesterday. unfortunately the Salvos lost in a close game but they raised approx $20k.
Harrison Clinch Harrison thanked members for their sponsorship in the recent colour run.
Angela Moore
- The volunteer training being held at Two Wells Primary [TWPS] has been postponed until the new year.
- TWPS are requesting help from the club to organise and run a catering stall on the 12th December for their twighlight fair and concert. Members showed their support and Angela will get names next week. Food required Hot dogs and Fairy Floss and a sausage sizzle.
After dinner pp Mike welcomed Barry to present his sergeants session.

PP Mike W then introduced The Guest Speaker, Madison Williams
Madison is no stranger to the club having first been introduced last year as a participant on the One and All Youth Sailing Challenge. Since her return from the trip Madison has spoken to the club about the adventure and assisted at many of our fundraising efforts usually putting in long hours without a break.
Madison wanted to update the club in what has happened in the last 12 months.
Madison said the experience was life changing and she gained so much from the experience but it had also brought new opportunities
When Madison spoke last time she mentioned that she was hoping to pursue a VET course, specifically a cert III in Christian Ministry and theology, she has now finished it. It was awesome, I learnt and did so much.
This course involved 2 placements, for her major placement, she volunteered at the Riverside Salvos and worked closely with the youth group planning events and themes nights, delivering sermons, and introducing important spiritual practices such as worship. But most importantly watching the group grow and have fun. Her minor placement for this course she was also able to help plan and organize aspects of the Hope Cup. Madison had a chance to practise public speaking through various presentations, She also had to move out of her comfort zone and stated she would not have had the confidence to do any of that If she hadn’t first taken the step to go on the One and All.
Madison had a wonderful scrap book she had made with photos and momentos from the trip which she handed around.
Another way in which the experience and therefor new confidence helped Madison was to open up new opportunities at school taking on the role of Oratory leader
Which entailed getting to know the new year 7's, and the other students in my oratory. Learning all about their interests, classes and helping with a lot of homework. organising activities and rewards and just generally working on people skills.
Madison then shared her exiting update
On the 20th of August this year, she was invited back on deck for a reunion day sail, with a mix of participants from her voyage and more recent ones and had an incredible day, They announced at the end of the voyage that they were running a program for kids in Madison’s age group to come on board and participate in a cadet-ship program she was more than eager to get some more information. Eventually building up the courage to apply and after a nervous interview and wait she got the news she had been accepted into the program! So next year, as she heads into year 12, she will be spending her time sailing the ocean and hopefully further developing herself.
The cadetship program is a 12-month course that includes a cert II in Maritime operations and a coxswain’s ticket, grade 1 near coastal. It will involve learning about every aspect of boat life, navigation, helming, safety, cleaning, maintenance. This program sets her up to work in the very understaffed maritime industry, something a year ago she never considered. Giving her the qualifications necessary to be a general deckhand, working on vessels such as the Murray Princess.
Over the next few weekends, Madison will participate in a few different day sails and most excitingly her official induction, meaning that she can get started on the course and it will be all official.
In closing, Madison had this to say
“…. it is all thanks to you guys, your decision to sponsor me, your kindness and support and the volunteer stuff I have done with you have been nothing but beneficial and uplifting and I want to thank all of you a thousand times over. Looking back over this year I can see how much my confidence has truly grown, but I also want to recognize where that growth started. Thank you again.”
After a short question and answer session PP Mike (also Madison’s Grandpa) presented her with certificate of appreciation and acknowledgment of a donation being made to End Polio.
After the presentation Members Beth and Margaret presented pres John with a birthday cake made by Gail complete with candles.
President John then thanked Madison for the fabulous update and members and guests for attending before closing meeting 3184 with the Four Way Test.
