Chair PP Mike opened the meeting and welcomed guests Madison (guest Speaker) and Sia (future member).
Apologies were received from Anthony Barilla, Geoff Benier, John Lyons, Julie Tekell, Kim Potger.
As tonight’s meeting was to finalise the Village Fair preparations Mike suggested that Steve keep his spot until after dinner and we enjoy fellowship over the main course and committee meeting be suspended for the evening.
After Dinner Barry presented his Facebook funnies and Bunyip roundup. During his session Barry announced he has retired as Fat Barry and tried to encourage someone else to take the role. As at the end of the meeting there were no takers but there are 12 months for someone to put their hand up ready for next year!
Although Madison needed no introduction to members as she is a very active friend of Rotary and has been guest speaker a number of times Chair and PP Mike gave her a lovely welcome and explained Madison wanted to share some wonderful news and fill us in on what has been happening recently.
Madison has just completed year 12 at Xavier College and at the recent awards presentation she was presented with certificates and prizes for outstanding effort in Visual Art; Dux fro Creative Arts and a very prestigious Order of Australia Association Student Citizenship award. Madison said she was very surprised to receive that award but very proud of it. She thanked Gawler Rotary for giving her the opportunity to participate in the Youth Team Sailing Challenge on the One and All as she believe this was the beginning of her volunteering journey first with Rotary then Salvos and ultimately being able to be a regular volunteer on the One and All. Madison saod when she first applied for sponsorship to attend the challenge she had no real idea what she wanted to do when she finished but now she knows she definitely wants to be involved in Marine and has completed her Coxswain’s certificate. She ultimately wants to captain a pilot boat and should be able to captain the One and All by the time she is 20.
Madison said she will be sailing a lot more in the coming months and has been invited as part of a One and All crew to sail to Hobart as part of the River Boat festival as well as sailing to the Whitsundays.
Everyone congratulated Madison and PP Kathy noted how much confidence Madison has gained since she was waived off on that first voyage. Well done Madison.
PP Mike then asked Steve to take the floor to run through organisation for the upcoming weekends village fair.
Mike handed to PE Kyle to close the meeting with the Four Way Test.
