PP Mike Williams did a spectacular job of being MC for the evening by keeping proceeding running smoothly.
A successful auction was conducted by the dynamic duo pp Mark Smeaton and Peter Nettlebeck. Competition and bantering between the two brought lots of laughs and helped push the bids up. $1754 was raised from Wine donated by Chris and Roz Edmunds.
As outgoing President’s Kathy Heinrich last official task before handing over to the new president, she presented Ian Nys and pp Leanne Clinch with Paul Harris Fellowship pins. PP Leanne was awarded a triple Sapphire and said this was dedicated to her Mum and Dad legacy both were popular and worthy recipients.
In her final report, President Kathy outlined the year’s events and thanked all who has contributed to an outstanding year before officially handed the presidency over the John Lyons who was inducted as Gawler Rotary Clubs 68th President.
His first task was to honour charter member Dr Bruce Eastick with Life membership of the Rotary Club of Gawler. Dr Bruce was clearly moved and humbled by such recognition and thanked everyone before his daughter Janine gave her own thanks to the club for the friendship and fellowship they have given to her father and made special mention of pp Dave Griffiths and pp Lance Hatcher who have assisted in getting her dad to meetings when she is unavailable.
In his address President John thanked IPP Kathy for a wonderful year and shared his excitement coming into the 100th year of Rotary and the 70th year of Gawler Rotary. John then introduced the board for the upcoming Rotary year.
In closing, President John introduced Rotary International President Gordon McInally’s theme for 2023-24 which is CREATE HOPE in the WORLD.
